Checklist
1. go to www.epals.com
2. sign-up or login
3. click on "projects"
4. decide on what project you and your class would like to do
5. click on "connect" "search by project"
6. find another classroom that is interested in doing the same project
7. click on "connect with classrooms" over on the right side
8. click on classroom that you are interested in
9. click on "reply" to notify the teacher of your interest
10. if translation is needed click on "translate"
11. once you have connected with teacher and decided on a project set up our students' email accounts
12. click on "my home"
13. click on "accounts" under Monitored Mail
14. click on "create new accounts"
15. each student will recieve their own monitored email address and password
16. once your classroom and the connected classroom are set up with the students' passwords and addresses' have one teacher send the other teacher the email addresses.
17. students can start with a getting to know each other email
18. have students go to www.epals.com and login with email and password
19. students will go to mail, compose each student would be given another student's email to write to
20. this starts the emailing process
21. students will then follow project details and timeline as to what to do next

Through ePals.com, students can connect with another classroom within the U.S. or worldwide. Individual students email accounts can be setup and completly monitored by the teacher.

Tip
  • Students should be similar in age
  • if working with another language, be sure other students are faily fluent in English
  • Keep parents informed
  • Have a purpose fr writing

  • Digital Storytelling
    • Students will develop a story topic
    • write their story
    • create or find approrpiate images to support their story
    • share their story and reflect on work

  • They Way We Are
    • Through email exchange, students learn about the daily lives, cultures, climate and geography of children who live in other regions of the world

  • Global Warming
    • Students learn about the effects of global warming anad ways to reduce its effects on our planet. Through email studnets collaborate on ways kids around the globe can make a difference.

    • Habitats
      • Students research habitats. and the animal and plant life within. Through email students will identify similarites and differences between their own habitat and thie ePals.
    • Maps
      • Students will learn to use three different types of maps to gather information about where their ePal lives. They will focus on emails discussing how geographic location impacts daily lives.

    • Natural Disasters
      • Students will learn about natural disasters, where and under what conditions they are most likely to occur.
    • Water
      • Students will research the world's water, focusing on how thier personal water use affects aquatic ecosystems in their communities.

    • Weather
      • Students will become meteorologist as they explore conditions that make up weather.
